Corrosive Inhibiting Primer

Owatrol CIP can be used on new and rusted surfaces, interior and exterior metal surfaces and is fine for use on horizontal and vertical surfaces.

Properties

• Penetrates deep in to rusted surfaces to drive out moisture and air.

Where to use

• Interior and exterior use.
• Horizontal and vertical surfaces.
• New and rusted surfaces – Ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
• Steel superstructures, motor vehicles etc
• Civil engineering and marine equipment.
• Railings, gates etc
• Nautical ballast tanks.

Surface Preparation

• Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and other surface contaminants.
• Remove all mill scale; loose and flaking rust and old paint back to a sound surface and edge.
• Feather in any sharp edges.
• Surfaces exposed to chemicals (acids, alkalis or salt deposits) should be washed using copious amounts of water or steam cleaned.
• Severely contaminated surfaces should be cleaned using an appropriate solvent.

Application

Stir well before and during use.
Do not thin.

New surfaces

• Prime with 1 coat of Owatrol C.I.P. and allow to dry.
• For surfaces subject to aggressive climatic conditions apply 2 priming coats.

Clean, lightly rusted or new unpainted rusty steel

• Apply 2 coats of Owatrol C.I.P. allowing drying time between coats.

Old severely rusted surfaces

• Apply 3 coats of Owatrol C.I.P. allowing drying time between coats.
  OR
• Apply wet on wet applications of Owatrol Oil until rust is fully saturated and allow to dry 24 hours.
• Apply 2 coats of Owatrol C.I.P. allowing drying time between coats.

Previously coated surfaces

• Spot prime all exposed metal with 2 coats of Owatrol C.I.P. allowing drying time between coats
• Apply 3rd coat over entire area and allow to dry.

Information

Coverage: 15 m² per litre
Application tools:  Brush, Roller, Airless Sprayer.
Application temperature: Between 5°C and 35°C.
Drying: 24 hours.
Clean-up: Clean all tools and equipment with mineral spirits while still wet. If allowed to dry, remove with paint stripper. Store and maintain equipment as directed by manufacturer.
NOTE: Any rags, steel wool etc soaked in Owatrol C.I.P. may spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Rags, steel wool etc must be saturated with water after use or placed in a sealed, water filled metal container, before disposing with household waste.
