Exterior Solutions Ltd is a family-run business, with a commitment to our community. We may be supplying specialist timbers to build projects across the UK and beyond, yet we still think local. Whenever possible, we employ local people and use local suppliers to support the Buckinghamshire economy. In addition, we like to support local causes.
Community Project Support
The impact of rising costs has certainly been felt in every industry and construction is no exception. We’ve been impacted by rising costs. However, as a team, we appreciate that we are in a more fortunate position than many in our community. At Christmas, the financial pressures on households can be particularly difficult. It can seem as though everyone else is having a wonderful time. As a result, if you can’t afford any extras, it can be tough.
Our families have always enjoyed festive celebrations, so we wanted to extend the goodwill and help others to enjoy Christmas. Therefore, we were delighted to hear about a community project organised by a local secondary school, Aylesbury Vale Academy.
In line with their school values, to ‘build the local community by bringing together individuals, families, voluntary organisations and other agencies to ensure that everyone achieves the best possible outcomes.’ They had big plans to bring a little cheer to children and families during the Christmas holidays. When we heard their ideas, we were delighted to support them with a donation.
Christmas Hampers for the Community
December at Aylesbury Vale Academy included an end-of-term Year 7 school Panto trip, a Christmas Bake Off competition and a student awards evening. However, the commitment of volunteer teachers and parents didn’t stop there. Our donation, and others, contributed to the purchase, organisation and distribution of 200 Christmas Gift Bags. A further 50 Food Hampers, with ingredients for a roast dinner, were also prepared.
In partnership with other local schools and community groups, Aylesbury Vale Academy had identified families who needed additional support. They ensured there was enough for everyone on the list to benefit.
Fortunately, Santa had a small gap in his schedule to personally deliver these parcels to families in the Berryfields community in Aylesbury. As a result, many households enjoyed a tasty meal and treats that would otherwise have not been on the menu.
Investing in Our Community
We were delighted to receive a thank you letter from the Head Teacher, Mrs Baughan, sharing details of the project. Reading the letter and seeing images of the festive bags, lined up ready for Santa’s delivery gave us a sense of pride.
As most of our team live in Aylesbury, these are our neighbours. Therefore, it is great to know that we helped to bring joy and make a small difference. It seems a fitting way to bring another successful year to an end.
Environmental Social Governance
In other aspects of Environmental Social Governance, our focus on sourcing local suppliers and services has a positive economic and environmental impact. Additionally, since moving to our current premises, we have invested in considerable updates to minimise our carbon footprint.
With the environment in mind, we ensure all timber is sourced from responsibly managed, FSC® certified forests. What’s more the charring process, inspired by the traditional Japanese technique of Yakisugi, is a natural preserver. As such, it alters the properties of wood, making it moisture, rot and insect-resistant without the need for chemical applications. Therefore, our Shou Sugi Ban® timber is a sustainable construction material that is 100% recyclable after use.
