How do I prepare my decking before applying white paint?

Correct preparation is essential for a long-lasting white paint finish on decking. For new, uncoated wood, treat with Seasonite new wood protection and allow the timber to weather for a minimum of six months before painting. New wood has a hard, shiny surface called mill glaze which prevents paint from adhering properly. For weathered, uncoated wood, use Owatrol Net-Trol wood cleaner with a stiff brush or pressure washer to remove dirt, grey fibres, and surface contaminants, then allow 48 hours to dry. For previously coated wood, all old paint must be fully removed before application. The surface must be clean, dry, and have a moisture content of 19% or less before you begin painting.
