To embrace the festive spirit, we’d like to raise a glass to our team, customers and suppliers! Thank you for contributing to another year of success, we couldn’t have done it without you.
Notable Architectural Design
We are delighted that Shou Sugi Ban® charred timbers are specified for stylish and award-winning architecture. It’s fantastic to see the finished projects and the ways that timber cladding blends with other building materials and is installed by craftsmen to create unique finishes.
Some of the marvellous architectural designs that spring to mind include:
House of Elements in Peckham
This recent renovation and extension project transformed a traditional Victorian Terrace into a nature-inspired sanctuary. The warm, grained texture of the charred timber cladding and an internal green wall are two elements that fuse inside and out.
Neil Dusheiko Architects have incorporated skylights, a balcony and openings to optimise views, light and the sense of space. Elements of the original building have been retained and the charred clad extension creates a large kitchen area and upper-floor office. The result is an escape from urban life within a busy London district.

Dark Matter in Hertfordshire
This project was completed last year and combines a light wood interior with an exterior clad in black charred shingles. It remains memorable as it was shortlisted for both a RIBA and Wood Award prize last year. It has since been voted Building of the Year 2024 by Arch Daily.
Hyperspace architect, Olli Andrew, worked with professional joiner, Paul Crudge, on a unique use of charred timber. The result feels incredibly organic and creates an interesting play of light and shadow that adds depth to this garden office. We love this creative use of Shou Sugi Ban® and know that Olli has other inventive ideas for timbers in future build projects.
We look forward to seeing more amazing building designs through 2025!
Our On-site Showroom Opened
One of the momentous events for us has been opening our on-site showroom. This project has taken longer than anticipated, but we wanted to get it right! We’re pleased to have this facility where architects, designers, building developers and clients can come to view our range of charred timbers.
If you would like to book an appointment to visit our showroom, please call us in the New Year on 01494 711800.
Spread the Joy at Christmas
At this time of year, we like to extend our gratitude by contributing to the local community. Christmas Wish is an Aylesbury-based charity set up by the Headmistress of Aylesbury Vale Academy Primary School.
She was aware that not all families in the Berryfields and Coldharbour parish could afford to splash out on festive food and gifts. So, she works with the local community and Councillors to raise funds and donations. These are spent on chicken, vegetables and treats, along with gifts for children which a team of volunteers deliver to the homes of those in need. We can’t think of a better way to spread the joy, so we were happy to donate to Christmas Wish.
Every Success in 2025
As we start clearing our desks and preparing for our festive celebrations, we are excited about what the New Year will bring. Wishing you all every success in 2025!
